a familiar breakfast: cereal w/milk and bananas
post run ice cream with my buddy A:
late lunch: turkey and cheese sand wich
distance run: 12 miles
i'm very happy with the miles i covered this weekend.
but, i must admit that i'm even happier with laying on the couch and not moving for a while.
time for a movie.

distance run: 14 miles.
chose to run through the woods today to avoid the heat. I left later than usual, and the high temps certainly caught up on me faster than I thought they would. Left ginger in the car for the first 7 miles, and looped back around to grab her for another 7. by the time i got to the car to get her my stomach was all cramped up and I thought I'd just end up driving home and calling it a day. instead, i drank a bunch of water, sat down for a minute and was good for another 7. ginger did great, though we did have our share of water breaks along the way.
coming home, the road to my house was blocked off because a tree had fallen, so I spent the day aimlessly driving around with the dog. it was fun for a little while...but i really needed a shower and some down time.
i made it home in the early afternoon, with enough time for a long swim.
pre run breakfast: cereal with milk
stranded and out to lunch: ceasar salad
still stranded, time for a snack: chocolate chip cookie and iced coffee
finally made it home and had a swim with my best buddy:

breakfast: cereal w/milk
mid morning snack: banana
lunch: left over salad
strawberries
distance run:
yesterday: 6
today: 6
It's finally cooled down enough to go on my favorite lunch hour run. I find that missing out on this time for running proves disastrous in the afternoon when I'm dragging myself around the office like a whiny 2 year old.
(speaking of whining) I noticed some odd bruising on the upper part of my shin today, right below the knee. I've experienced lower shin pain since the winter time...and sort of ignored it. (no, really ignored it) this is my first time with shin splints. i realize there's not much to do about them once they're there....which is the most frustrating and terrible thing about them. So I'll be doing my share of whining for the next few days. brace yourself.

distance run: 15 miles.
it was foggy this morning so i rushed out of the house to enjoy the cool air. i ran 8 miles into wilder ranch and along the ocean bluffs. circled back to the car to gather my dog and ran another 7 through the westside neighborhood and along westcliff.
15 miles is still a lot for me. i was really dragging myself at the end.
after my run i stopped at the westside farmers market. if i wasn't so tired i would have unwound for a while longer there...the pastries and coffee looked so good!
in the car, i had
breakfast: banana, white nectarine
and then when I came home I had
a more sufficient breakfast/post run meal: whole grain bagel with cream cheese
i napped for 4 hours.
and then had a snack while i prepared dinner: cottage cheese with a hardboiled egg. i shared half with ginger.
and the most satisfying dinners i've had in a long while:
Chicken with whole wheat penne pasta, and zucchini, squash, broccoli, mushrooms, onion in a roasted red pepper puree with sun dried tomato and capers. I had a side salad of mixed greens and wildflowers, cucumbers, garbanzo beans, green and red peppers, tomatoes, parmesan cheese, flax seeds and almonds dressed with olive oil and apple cider vinegar. whew!
i'm happy.

Breakfast: cereal with milk
Lunch: turkey and provolone cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread
Dinner: spinach salad with green peppers, cucumbers, garbanzo beans, flax seeds, almonds, parmesan cheese, and olive oil/redwine dressing
yesterday was so hot and awful for running (especially at noon), I decided I'd run before work today. the fog and early morning sunrise made for a most surreal and beautiful welcome to the day.
